Guarantees
Each piece of ceramics you buy is uniquely hand-made. It is certified of Deruta's origin, it is marked on the base with a code number, the year of production, the initials of the manufacturer, the mark of Art1st, where applicable and, either on the side or underneath or both, the artist's initials.
Art1st guarantees that the object has been manufactured in Deruta from initial shaping to final firing following ancient traditions passed from father to son for centuries.
Each piece of ceramics is accompanied by a certificate that confirms its dimensions and weight (see certification section).
The object will either carry a traditional Deruta design, or as may be the case, a more modern one, based on the artist's imagination and abilities. Whilst the design may be traditional, much has changed, over the years, about the use of colours. Modern colours may be more vivid and brilliant and the palette has also substantially increased. This gives you more colour-safe choices.
It should be pointed out that Art1st does not guarantee the provenience of any product delivered without the certificate.
Study the object carefully. Each will have an irregular shape (as a result of hand shaping), it will have a ruffled surface (sign of earthenware cooking) and may show uneven brushstrokes. All these are distinctive signs that confirm the hand-made origin of the object. If you lift it, the object will generally show underneath (in most situations)the brownish earthenware tracts typical of Deruta(see picture top left above). Any other colour would suggest that the object does not come from Deruta unless otherwise stated by the certificate.
Please note that, sometimes, molten rock is also used as a base for producing objects such as tables and paintings. Molten rock has higher resistance and is useful for the production of large one-piece only surfaces.
